In February 2026, Philippe Schäfer joined Nicola Screnci on the AFNOR National DDRS Commission; two IRSI members are now contributing to this work, which aims to develop standard application documents enabling organizations of all types to implement CSR approaches effectively and consistently.
Structuring work on ESG standards and governance
Among the Commission’s latest developments are:
The establishment of an ISO International Workshop Agreement project committee (IWA 48) tasked with developing a document on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles.
The ISO workshop (IWA48 – International Workshop Agreement) was established in 2024. This workshop was proposed by a trio of standardisation bodies: the British, Brazilian and Canadian organisations. This committee is limited to the development of a single ISO document (not a standard).
The launch of the development of a standard on purpose-driven organisations – “Purpose Driven Organisation” within the ISO Committee on Governance of Organisations (ISO/TC 309/WG1). The British proposal to develop an ISO standard on purpose-driven organisations was approved by the members of the ISO committee responsible for governance issues (ISO/TC 309). This standard will be referenced as ISO 37011 and aims to provide recommendations.
