Culture, tourism and sport

La Rochelle immediately charms you with its architecture, its geographical location, its climate and its atmosphere. In addition, there is the Old Port with its towers standing guard over the maritime entrance to the city. And don’t forget Saint-Nicolas district, the central market and the many medieval arcaded streets. The local region, Charente-Maritime, is also a firm favourite with tourists, offering a multitude of places to visit including its three islands: Île de Ré, Île d’Oléron and Île d’Aix.

Whether for cultural or sporting events, La Rochelle is always a happening place. Its national theatre (La Coursive), concert venue (La Sirène), Music and Dance Conservatory, National Choreography Centre and many museums (art and history, national history, maritime etc.) offer a wide variety of cultural experiences. And in harmony with this, throughout the city you will find sporting facilities in equal measure.

Specially for students, the SUAPSE (university service for sporting activities) at the University of La Rochelle offers more than 40 different activities that can be enjoyed on either a personal level (for leisure) or with the desire to pursue a qualification. The rates are, of course, preferential.
