The Case Lab welcomes, structures, and supports the development of case studies produced within the school, fully integrated into its pedagogical approach. It aims to facilitate the assimilation of theoretical concepts and their application to situations closely reflecting real-world professional contexts.

Why use case studies?

The Case Lab aims to foster students’ critical thinking skills. The case method mobilizes judgment, encourages reflection, and exposes learners to complex situations similar to those faced by managers and executives. There is no single correct answer to the issues raised; the key lies in the ability to analyze, question, and make decisions. From this perspective, case studies are designed to develop high-level skills such as identifying managerial issues, analyzing and resolving complex situations, synthesizing and presenting information, and formulating managerial recommendations. These competencies underpin the standards guiding case design, which are formalized in an editorial policy and ensured through a double-review process.

Recognized areas of expertise

Excelia Business School has developed recognized expertise in the field of case studies in corporate social responsibility (CSR), drawing on the work of its faculty and on the expertise fostered within the Institute for Research in Social Responsibility and Innovation (IRSI). The Case Lab’s outputs illustrate the close link between academic research and teaching through case studies grounded in contemporary issues, developed in regular interaction with specialized academic journals such as Recherche et Cas en Sciences de Gestion.

The Case Lab also maintains long-standing partnerships with several scientific associations, including the International Research Network on Organizations and Sustainable Development (RIODD) and the French Association of Tourism Management (AFMAT). In this context, it designs and leads initiatives aimed at promoting pedagogical case studies, contributing to the dissemination and recognition of the case method.

The work developed at Excelia Business School has received academic and professional recognition, including CCMP / FNEGE awards honoring case studies linked to research activities. Finally, several faculty members at Excelia Business School are recognized as experts in the case method. They are regularly invited by scientific associations such as the French Marketing Association (AFM) and AIRL-SCM to review pedagogical case studies, and they lead workshops and training sessions on the case method in higher education institutions, both in France and internationally. They also contribute to the publication of pedagogical case books.
